Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

Explanatory notes to heading 8106 2 paragraphs

Machine translation from Russian. The original is the EEC explanatory note, and that is what a classification dispute is argued from; the translation is for understanding and has no legal force.

8106 Bismuth and articles thereof, including waste and scrap

This metal is found in a native state, but mainly it is obtained either by refining waste production of lead, copper, etc., or by extraction from sulfide or carbonate ores (for example, bismutinite and bismuthite). Bismuth is a white veta metal with a reddish tint, brittle, difficult to process and with poor conductivity. It is used in research instruments and for the preparation of chemical compounds for pharmaceutical purposes. It forms light-melting alloys (some melting below 100 °C), the following of which may be included in this heading in accordance with Note 5 to Section XV: (1) Bismuth-lead-tin alloys (sometimes with cadmium, etc.) (for example, alloys of Derset, Lipovit, Newton or Wood), used as solders, casting alloys, light-melting elements for fire extinguishers, boilers. (2) Bismuth-indium-lead-tin-cadmium alloys used in surgery.
