9303 20 — Sporting, hunting or target-shooting shotguns, with at least one smooth barrel (excl. muzzle-loading firearms and spring, air or gas guns)

Sporting, hunting or target-shooting shotguns, with at least one smooth barrel (excl. muzzle-loading firearms and spring, air or gas guns)

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

9303 Other firearms and similar devices which operate by the firing of an explosive charge (for example, sporting shotguns and rifles, muzzle-loading firearms, Very pistols and other devices designed to project only signal flares, pistols and revolvers for firing blank ammunition, captive-bolt humane killers, line-throwing guns): 9303 10 – Muzzle-loading firearms 9303 20 – Other sporting, hunting or target-shooting shotguns, including combination shotgun-rifles with smooth and rifled barrels 9303 30 – Other sporting, hunting or target-shooting rifles 9303 90 – Other

This heading covers all firearms not falling in headings 93 01 and 9302; it also covers certain devices which are not weapons but which operate by the firing of an explosive charge. The heading includes: (1) Sporting shotguns, hunting shotguns and target-shooting guns, rifles and carbines of all calibres, smooth-bore or rifled. Sporting and hunting guns often have more than one barrel, sometimes one smooth barrel and one rifled barrel; sometimes they may have interchangeable barrels (smooth and rifled). They often have ornamental engraving on the metal parts and carved stocks. Target-shooting guns usually have only one barrel. These guns may fire only one cartridge at a time and require manual reloading after each shot, or they may be fitted with a magazine and be capable of repeating fire, or they may have a mechanism for rapid semi-automatic fire. Sporting guns made to look like walking-sticks are included in this heading. (2) Punt guns (guns for flat-bottomed boats), specially designed for shooting waterfowl. They are mounted on a support or stand fixed to the boat. (3) Muzzle-loading ("black powder") firearms, not designed to fire cartridges and incapable of firing them. (4) Signal pistols and other devices for launching signal flares only. (5) Dummy, imitation or safety pistols and revolvers capable of firing blank cartridges only. They may have solid or blocked barrels with a vent for the escape of gases. Some types of revolvers may have tapered chambers in the cylinder, while starting pistols and theatrical pistols have no barrel. When used in competitions, starting pistols may be fitted with electrical devices which actuate timing equipment. (6) Captive-bolt pistols for the "humane" slaughter of animals, which resemble pistols for firing blank cartridges. The energy of the explosive drives a bolt forward along the barrel to kill or stun the animal. The bolt does not leave the barrel of the pistol but returns for further use. The heading excludes bullet-firing pistols (usually of large calibre), sometimes used for slaughtering animals (heading 9302). (7) Line-throwing guns, used mainly on ships or at lifeboat stations for life-saving and for establishing communication. (8) Harpoon guns, operating by firing a harpoon attached to a rope and designed for catching fish, marine mammals, turtles, etc. (9) Signal cannon, mortars and similar devices firing blank ammunition and used for raising the alarm (e.g., at lifeboat stations), during celebrations or to give warning of the presence of poachers, etc.

(10) "Capital guns", which are cannons in the form of a truncated cone of sheet iron, designed to shoot on hail clouds in order to cause rain. This heading does not include riveting cartridge tools, wall punchers, etc., which are operated with an explosive charge (heading 8205).
