0909 62 00 — Seeds of anise, badian, fennel, coriander, cumin (Roman or Volosh cumin) or caraway; juniper berries: seeds of anise, badian, caraway or fennel; juniper berries: crushed or ground

Seeds of anise, badian, fennel, coriander, cumin (Roman or Volosh cumin) or caraway; juniper berries: seeds of anise, badian, caraway or fennel; juniper berries: crushed or ground

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

Machine translation. The original is the Russian text of the EAEU tariff, and customs goes by it; this translation is for understanding only and has no legal force.

These fruits or seeds are used as spices, for industrial purposes (e.g., in the distilling of alcoholic beverages) and in medicine. They remain classified in this heading even when (particularly in the case of aniseed) put up (e.g., in sachets) for making herbal infusions or herbal "tea". The anise seeds of this heading are unripe egg-shaped seeds, greyish-green in colour, with longitudinal stripes and a very characteristic aromatic odour. Badian is star anise. Seeds of coriander, of cumin, or Roman caraway, and of caraway are the aromatic seeds of certain plants of the Umbelliferae family, used mainly in the manufacture of liqueurs. Fennel seeds, obtained from a culinary herb, may be dark grey, giving off a strong and pleasant odour, or pale green with a very distinctive sweet odour. Juniper berries are dark brown fruits with a slight purplish-blue bloom, covered with a resinous dust. They contain a reddish aromatic pulp with a bitter and slightly sweetish taste, enclosing three small and very hard seeds. These berries are used for flavouring various alcoholic beverages (e.g., gin), sauerkraut and various food products, and for the extraction of essential oils.
