Diphosphorus pentaoxide; phosphoric acid; polyphosphoric acids, whether or not chemically defined: phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

2809 Diphosphorus pentaoxide; phosphoric acid; polyphosphoric acids

chemical composition: 2809 10 diphosphorus pentaoxide 2809 20 phosphoric acid and polyphosphoric acids

This heading includes diphosphorus pentaoxide, phosphoric acid (orthophosphoric acid or ordinary phosphoric acid), pyrophosphoric acid (diphosphoric acid), metaphosphoric acid and other polyphosphoric acids. (A) Pentaoxide diphosphorus (pentavalent phosphorus oxide, phosphorus pentaoxide, phosphorus anhydride) (P 2O5) is prepared by burning in dry air phosphorus extracted from natural phosphates. It is a white powder with strong corrosive properties, actively absorbs water, is transported in sealed packages. It is used for drying gases and in organic synthesis. Diphosphorus pentaoxide exists in crystalline, amorphous or vitreous form. These three varieties in the mixture form "phosphorus snow" which falls in this heading. Phosphoric acid (orthophosphoric acid or ordinary phosphoric acid) (H3PO4) is obtained by the action of sulfuric acid on natural tricalcium phosphate. The technical acid thus obtained holds diphosphorus pentaoxide, calcium dihydrogen phosphate, sulfur trioxide, sulfuric acid, hexafluoro silicic acid, etc. as impurities. Pure phosphoric acid is obtained by controlled hydration of diphosphorus pentaoxide. Phosphoric acid can exist in the form of floating prismatic crystals, but since it is difficult to preserve in a solid state, it is usually prepared in aqueous solutions (for example, 65%, 90%). A concentrated solution that remains supersaturated at room temperature is sometimes called a phosphoric acid syrup. Phosphoric acid is used to produce concentrated (triple) superphosphates; it is also used in the textile industry and as an etching liquid (to remove rust). With high-temperature condensation, phosphoric acid forms polymeric acids: pyrophosphoric (difosphoric) acid, metaphosphoric acids and other polyphosphoric acids. (B) Polyphosphoric acids (I) Acids characterized by alternation of P-O-P atoms are classified here. Formally, they can be obtained by condensing two or more molecules of orthophosphoric acid with the removal of water elements. Thus, a number of linear acids are obtained having the general formula: Hn+2PnO3n+1, where n = 2 or more, and cyclic acids having the general formula: (HPO3)n, where n = 3 or more. (1) Pyrophosphoric acid (diphosphoric acid, H4P2O7) is formed by controlled heating of orthophosphoric acid. It is unstable in humid air and easily converted to orthophosphoric acid.

(2) Metaphosphorus slots. They are cyclic acids, e.g. cyclo-triphosphoric acid (HPO3)3 and cyclo-tetraphosphoric acid (HPO3)4, present in insignificant amounts in mixtures of polyphosphoric acids containing more than 86% P2O5. Ice polyphosphoric acid (technical metaphosphoric acid) is a mixture of polyphosph oric acids (mainly linear) of uncertain chemical composition that may contain sodium salts. Such mixtures included in this heading have the form of glass of visible masses, evaporated by red potassium, and do not take a crystalline form. They actively absorb water and are used to dry gases. (3) Other polyphosphoric acids of type P-O-P. They are usually mixtures called "polyphosph oric" or "superphosphoric" acids containing higher members of the series, for example, triphosphoric acid (H5P3O10) and tetraphosphoric acid (H6P4O13). These mixtures are also dealt with in this heading. (II) Other polyphosphoric acids. This portion includes, inter alia, hypophosphoric acid (diphosphoric (IV) acid) (H4P2O6). This compound exists in the form of a crystalline dihydrate, which should be stored in a dry place. It is more stable in weak solutions. This heading does not cover: (a) other phosphoric acids and oxides (phosphonic acid and its oxides, phosphic acid) (heading 2811); (b) hydrogen phosphides (heading 2853).
