4703 29 — Semi-bleached or bleached non-coniferous chemical wood pulp, soda or sulphate (excl. dissolving grades)

Semi-bleached or bleached non-coniferous chemical wood pulp, soda or sulphate (excl. dissolving grades)

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

Explanatory notes to heading 4703 2 paragraphs

Machine translation from Russian. The original is the EEC explanatory note, and that is what a classification dispute is argued from; the translation is for understanding and has no legal force.

4703 Wood, natron or sulphate cellulose, except for soluble varieties: - unbleached: 4703 11 - from conifers 4703 19 - from hardwoods - semi-whitewashed or bleached: 4703 21 - from conifers 4703 29 - from hardwoods

Soda or sulphate pulp is obtained by cooking wood, usually in chipped form, in concentrated alkaline solutions. For soda pulp the cooking liquor is a solution of sodium hydroxide; for sulphate pulp it is a modified solution of sodium hydroxide. The term "sulphate" is used because sodium sulphate, part of which is converted into sodium sulphide, is used in the preparation of the cooking liquor. Sulphate pulp is by far the more important product. These pulps are used in the manufacture of absorbent materials (such as fluff pulp and babies' napkins), and of paper and paperboard with high requirements for tear, tensile and burst strength.

1.
