5108 20 — Combed yarn of fine animal hair (excl. that of wool and that put up for retail sale)

Combed yarn of fine animal hair (excl. that of wool and that put up for retail sale)

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

Explanatory notes to heading 5108 2 paragraphs

Machine translation from Russian. The original is the EEC explanatory note, and that is what a classification dispute is argued from; the translation is for understanding and has no legal force.

5108 Buckle of fine animal hair (hardware or paddle spinning), not packaged for retail sale: 5108 10 – hardware spinning 5108 20 – row spinning

This heading includes yarn, single-stranded or multi-twisted (twisted), obtained from a straight line of fine animal hair, hardware or paddle spinning (see the HS Explanatory Note to heading 5102 defining the term “fine animal hair”). It is not included in this heading if it is packaged for retail sale (see paragraph (I)(B)(3) of the general provisions of section XI). The yarn of this brewing position is used mainly in the manufacture of knitwear or fabrics for certain types of light clothing (for example, alpaca) and for coats or blankets (for example, camel hair (including dromedary hair)), for velvets or for imitating fur. This yarn may be subjected to the treatment referred to in point (I)(B)(1) of the general provisions of Section XI.
