Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

5805 Hand-woven tapestries of the type Flanders, Aubusson, Beauvais and similar tapestries, and needle-worked tapestries (for example, satin stitch, cross stitch), whether or not made up

This heading covers tapestries woven by hand or embroidered with a needle on a ground basis (usually on a canvas). Their main characteristic is that they are made in the form of separate mousks with a completed original drawing often of a picturesque nature.

(A) Hand-woven woven tapestries are obtained by pulling the main threads on the loom and weaving them together with various colored weaving threads that cover the base, form a pattern and also form a fabric. In contrast to the method used for weaving conventional, containing the main and finer threads of fabrics, multi-colored threads are used no longer than required to obtain a pattern, so that usually these weaning threads do not cross the entire width of the fabric;

Thus, along the length of each duck thread, the main threads are covered with a number of multicolored duck threads, and their free ends are displayed on the underside of the figure. The unwoven main threads remaining in this method of weaving are usually fixed by stitching. Such tapestries include types of tapestries Belgian, Obussonian or bové. Tapestry produced on a loom (jacquard loom or the like) and mimicking these hand-woven g whitewashes are ordinary fabrics with main and fine-tuning threads in which colored weaving threads pass from one edge to the other, and they are considered in the relevant headings as fabrics or finished products depending on the case.

(B) Needle-embroidered tapestries are characterized by the fact that they are produced on a woven frame (usually a square-cell canvas), on which the desired pattern is filled with embroidery; a large number of multi-colored threads are used for this. Sometimes tapestries embroidered with a needle on top are overlapped with other stitches, but they are included in this heading and are not considered embroideries. Unlike most embroideries of heading 5810, the ground substrate (usually the canvas) is covered in its entirety, except perhaps on the edges. Stitches used in embroidery are called by the type of their execution: small stitches, large stitches, cross, double cross, tapestry stitches, etc. Tapestry is used mainly for finishing works, as wall coverings or upholstery chairs, etc., usually made of silk, wool, chemical threads or even metallized yarn. They are included in this heading even if they are cut, lined, etc., but if they are made of articles such as evening handbags, sofa cushions, home shoes, etc., they are naturally not included in this heading. This heading also excludes: (a) kilim, sumach, kermani and similar carpets (heading 5702); (b) sets consisting of fabrics and yarns for the manufacture of tapestries (heading 6308); (c) tapestries more than 100 years old (group 97).
