This heading covers knitted or crocheted fabrics other than those falling in the preceding headings of this Chapter. It includes, for example, weft knitted fabrics and hand-knitted fabrics of a width exceeding 30 cm, not containing elastomeric yarn or rubber thread or containing by weight less than 5 % of such yarn or thread. The terms "weft knitted fabrics" and "hand-knitted fabrics" are explained in the Explanatory Notes to this Chapter (see the General Explanatory Note, Items (A) (I) and (B), respectively). The heading also excludes: (a) dressings impregnated or coated with pharmaceutical substances or put up for retail sale (heading 3005); (b) knitted or crocheted labels, badges and similar articles of heading 5807; (c) embroidered fabrics of heading 5810; (d) fabrics of Chapter 59 (that is, impregnated, coated or laminated fabrics of heading 5903 or 5907, rubberised fabrics of heading 5906 and wicks or incandescent gas mantle fabric of heading 5908); (e) made up articles within the meaning of Note 7 to Section XI (see also Part (II) of the General Explanatory Note to that Section).

(a) crochet lace of heading 5804;

(b) labels, badges and similar articles, knitted or crocheted, of heading 5807; or

(c) knitted or crocheted fabrics, impregnated, coated, covered or laminated of Chapter 59. However, knitted or crocheted pile fabrics, impregnated, coated, covered or laminated, remain classified in heading 6001.

2. This chapter also includes fabrics made of metal thread and of a kind used in apparel, as furnishing fabrics or for similar purposes.

3. Throughout the nomenclature, any reference to ‘knitted goods’ includes a reference to stitch-bonded goods in which the chain stitches are formed of textile yarn.
