Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

6907 Ceramic paving slabs, facing tiles for floors, stoves, fireplaces or walls; ceramic mosaic cubes and the like, whether or not on a backing; finishing ceramics (+): – paving slabs, facing tiles for floors, stoves, fireplaces or walls, other than those of subheadings 6907 30 and 6907 40: 6907 21 – – of a water absorption coefficient by weight not exceeding 0.5 % 6907 22 – – of a water absorption coefficient by weight exceeding 0.5 % but not exceeding 10 % 6907 23 – – of a water absorption coefficient by weight exceeding 10 % 6907 30 – mosaic cubes and the like, other than those of subheading 6907 40 6907 40 – finishing ceramics

This heading covers ceramic and cladding tiles, including quarry tiles, used for paving roads and lining walls, furnaces, etc. Plates for paving, tiles for floors, stoves, fireplaces or walls are less thick relative to the size of their surface than building bricks. If bricks play a major role in construction work, forming the frame of buildings, then slabs and tiles are designed to be attached with cement, binder or in some other way to the surface of existing walls, etc. They also differ from shingles in that they usually have a flat surface, they do not need holes or any fixtures for fastening, as well as the fact that they are attached side by side, without overlapping each other. Plates are larger than tiles and are usually rectangular in shape; tiles can have different shapes (six-, octagonal, etc.). Tiles are used mainly for lining walls, fireplaces, stoves, floors and paths; slabs are used mainly for paving sidewalks, roads, floors or fireplaces. Products of both categories can be made of clay or other inorganic raw materials, the form is usually given by extruding or pressing at room temperature, but other technologies can be used, then dried with subsequent firing at a temperature sufficient to give them the desired properties. One aco product, subject to particularly heavy loads, often glazed, for example, tiles made of stone ceramics, porcelain or burnt steatite (for example, tiles for crusher cladding, etc.). Wear resistance and with glass transition depend on the structure of the tile. These structural properties are characterized by the ability to absorb water. A high level of water absorption corresponds to a porous structure. Low water absorption corresponds to a dense (glazed) structure.

The coefficient of porosity or water absorption (denoted by the symbol E) is determined by the percentage of the mass of water after saturation of the dry sample (tiles) with water. The determination of the water absorption level is based on the vacuum method according to ISO 10545-3. The formula for calculating water absorption E is expressed by the following equation: E = {(Mf-Mi) / Mi }x 100, where: E = water absorption expressed as a percentage, Mi = dry mass of the sample, Mf = mass of the sample saturated with water. Some ceramic tiles are used only for paving; unlike bricks, they are usually shaped like cubes or truncated pyramids. In practice, they are usually made of stone ceramics or, in exceptional cases, porcelain (for example, tiles for pedestrian crossings). The classification of the goods in this heading is therefore determined by their shape and size, and not by their structure; thus, bricks suitable for use in both construction and pavement are not included in this heading (heading 6904). Products of this arena position can be painted in mass, made under marble, subjected to riffling, mauling, corrugation, glazing, etc. Subject to the above provisions, this heading also includes: (1) Finishing products made of ceramics, such as kerb, nozzle, plinth, frieze, corner or other tiles used as additional elements for fine-tuning lining, paving, etc., with or without rounded edges, non-flat or three-dimensional, which gives it the quality of finishing elements; this applies, in particular, to curb, plinth, frieze, corner tiles, decorative inserts and other ceramic accessories. In such cases, these products should be combined with the main tile, so the shade and quality of their surface are usually the same as that of ordinary tiles. As a rule, they are sold piece by piece or linear meters. (2) Double tiles designed for splitting before use. (3) Terracotta cladding elements used in the hotel industry for external or internal cladding, of various sizes, with a modular structure, which are attached by, for example, metal clamps to vertical or horizontal metal profiles attached to the walls of the main structure. (4) Cubes for mosaic works without a base or on paper or other basis, characterized by small size. On the other hand, this heading does not cover: (a) tiles specially designed for hot stoves, etc. (heading 6911 or 6912); (b) decorative and similar articles of heading 6913; (c) ceramic tiles specially designed for cookstoves (heading)

Machine translation. The original is the Russian text of the EAEU tariff, and customs goes by it; this translation is for understanding only and has no legal force.

1. This chapter includes only ceramic articles which have been fired after forming:

(a) headings 6904 to 6914 cover only those articles which are not covered in headings 6901 to 6903;

(b) articles heated to a temperature of less than 800 °C for the purpose of curing the resin, accelerating the hydration reaction or for the removal of water or other volatile components are not considered to have been burned. Such articles are excluded from Chapter 69; and

(c) ceramic articles obtained by firing inorganic non-metallic materials pre-prepared and molded, usually at room temperature. Raw materials include, inter alia, clays, silica materials including fused silica, high melting point materials such as oxides, carbides, nitrides, graphite or other forms of carbon, and in some cases binders such as refractory clays or phosphates.

2. This group does not include:

(a) the goods of heading 2844;

(b) articles of heading 6804;

(c) articles of Chapter 71 (for example, jewelry);
