7315 12 — Articulated link chain of iron or steel (excl. roller chain)

Articulated link chain of iron or steel (excl. roller chain)

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

This heading covers chain of cast iron (usually malleable cast iron) or of iron or steel, irrespective of size, method of manufacture or intended use. It includes articulated link chain (e.g., roller chain, silent chain and Gall's chain), non-articulated chain, including flat-link stud chain (forged, cast, welded, stamped from sheet or strip or made of wire, etc.), and bush-roller chain. This heading includes: (1) Transmission chain for motorcycles, motor cars or machines. (2) Anchor or mooring chain; lifting, conveyor or haulage chain; non-skid chain for motor vehicles. (3) Chain for mattresses, sink stoppers, flushing cisterns, etc.

All these chains may be fitted with accessories (e.g., hooks, snap hooks, swivels, couplings, collars and split collars, as well as tees). Chains may be of various lengths and used for various purposes. Parts of iron or steel specially designed for chains, e.g., links, rollers, bushes, etc., for articulated chains, links and shackles for non-articulated chains, are also classified in this heading. The heading excludes: (a) Chains having the character of imitation jewellery of heading 7117 (e.g., watch chains and key-ring chains). (b) Chains fitted with cutting teeth, etc., used as chain saws or cutting tools (Chapter 82), or other articles in which chains play an ancillary role, e.g., bucket chains, hook conveyor chains or stretching devices for finishing in the textile industry. (c) Door fasteners fitted with chains (heading 8302). (d) Measuring chains (heading 9015).

Notes to chapter 73 — Articles of iron or steel 3 items

Notes

English text as published in Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2021/1832 (Combined Nomenclature). The EAEU tariff and the EU nomenclature copy these notes from the same convention. For a Russian declaration the binding version is the Russian one: Annex to Decision No 80 of the EEC Council of 14 September 2021.

1. In this chapter, the expression ‘cast iron’ applies to products obtained by casting in which iron predominates by weight over each of the other elements and which do not comply with the chemical composition of steel as defined in note 1(d) to Chapter 72.

2. In this chapter, the word ‘wire’ means hot- or cold-formed products of any cross-sectional shape, of which no cross-sectional dimension exceeds 16 mm.

1. Drilling pipes are used for descent into a borehole and lifting a rock-destroying tool, transferring rotation, creating an axial load on the tool, supplying a washing fluid or compressed air to the bottom. There are ordinary, weighted and leading drill pipes.

Ordinary drill pipes (heading 7304) - usually one-piece round cross-section, are connected by means of drill locks or semi-locks with special large conical threads.

Weighted drill pipes (heading 8431) are usually round or square cross-sections with an increased wall thickness; they are also connected by thread and serve to increase the stiffness of the lower part of the column and to place a load on the rock-destroying tool.

Leading drill pipes (heading 8431) - multifaceted cross-section, are placed at the top of the column of drill pipes and transmit it rotation from the rotator of the drilling rig.
