7502 10 00 — Unwrought nickel: nickel, not alloyed

Unwrought nickel: nickel, not alloyed

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

7502 Nickel raw: 7502 10 – nickel unalloyed 7502 20 – nickel alloys

Untreated nickel is usually in the form of ingots, pellets, plates, cubes, pellets, briquettes, spherical particles, cathodes or other electrodeposable forms. These primary forms are mainly used as alloying additives in the production of alloy steels and non-ferrous metal alloys and in the production of certain chemicals. Some forms are used in titanium baskets to apply a nickel coating or to produce nickel powder. Black nickel is usually cast into anodes for refining by electrolysis. The anodes of this heading are generally in the form of plates with two eyelets for hanging in an electric roller bath. They are not to be confused with the electroplating anodes described in the HS Explanatory Note to heading 7508. Cathodes are plates obtained by electrodeposition on "source sheets" of pure nickel, to which two nickel loops (ears) are attached for hanging in an electrolytic bath. When purified nickel is deposited, the "source sheet" becomes an integral and inseparable part of the cathodes. Uncut cathodes are usually transported without removing these hinges, which often carry a layer of precipitated nickel on the weld. They should not be confused with hanging hooks, which are attached to some galvanic anodes that serve to produce nickel coatings. Uncircumcised cathodes are usually larger (approximately 96 x 71 x 1.25 cm) than plate-shaped galvanic anodes, which rarely exceed a width of 30.5 cm. Cathodes which have simply been trimmed or cut into stripes or small rectangular pieces belong to this heading, regardless of their size or purpose. They may be distinguished from electroplating anodes of heading 75 08 because they are not equipped with hooks for hanging or have no devices (e.g. holes or protrusions) for fastening hooks. This heading also excludes nickel powders and scales (heading 7504).

1. The terms used in this chapter mean:

(a) “Non-alloyed nickel” means a metal containing a total of at least 99 % by weight of nickel and cobalt, provided that:

(i) the cobalt content is not more than 1.5 % by weight; and

(ii) the content of each of the other elements does not exceed the limits set out in the following table:

Other elements

Element

Maximum content, wt.%

Fe

0.4

Other elements (each of them)

0.3

(b) “nickel alloys” means metal alloys in which the nickel content by mass exceeds that of each of the other elements, provided that:

(i) the cobalt content is greater than 1.5 % by weight;

(ii) the mass content of at least one of the other elements must be greater than the limit value shown in the table; or

(iii) the total content of elements other than nickel and cobalt is more than 1% by weight.

2. Notwithstanding the provisions of Note 9(c) to Section XV, for the purposes of subheading 7508 (10), the term “wire” means only articles rolled up or not rolled into coves and with any shape of cross-section not exceeding 6 mm.
