8602 10 — Diesel-electric locomotives
Diesel-electric locomotives
Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.
Machine translation. The original is the Russian text of the EAEU tariff, and customs goes by it; this translation is for understanding only and has no legal force.

8602 Other railway locomotives; locomotive tenders: 8602 10 – diesel-electric locomotives 8602 90 – other
(A) Locomotives This category includes all types of railway locomotives except those which are powered by an external source of electricity or by electric accumulators (heading 8601) irrespective of the type of power unit (steam engine, diesel, gas turbine, petrol, pneumatic engine, etc.). This includes: (1) Three types of locomotives:
(a) diesel-electric locomotives in which the diesel engine drives a generator generating electricity to power traction electric motors rotating wheels; (b) diesel-hydraulic locomotives in which the diesel engine drives the wheels through hydraulic transmission; (c) diesel-mechanical locomotives in which the diesel engine drives the wheels through a coupling or hydraulic coupling and transmission. (2) Steam locomotives of all types, including electric-powered turbo locomotives, tank locomotives and fire-free locomotives having a steam tank instead of a boiler which is filled with steam from an external installation. This heading covers medium-power locomotives which are not equipped with wheel bogies and generally have only two driving axles. They are used mainly at stations for shunting and on the access roads of industrial enterprises. (B) Locomotive Tenders are vehicles coupled to locomotives containing the water and fuel required for the operation of the steam boiler. They consist mainly of a frame mounted on two or more axles and a sheet metal body comprising a closed water tank and a coal bunker or fuel tank. Tractors intended for both road and rail travel are excluded from this heading (heading 8701).
