(A) While the apparatus of the preceding heading is intended to project enlarged moving images onto a screen, the apparatus of this heading is intended to project still images. The most common type is a projection lantern (or diascope), which is used to project an image of a transparent object (black-white or colored slide or banner). It uses two lenses: one, a condenser, forms an image of a light source on a second lens called a projection lens. The banner is placed between these lenses so that the projection lens forms an image of the slide on the screen. A powerful source is used, the light from which is concentrated by a reflector. The transients can be changed manually, semi-automatically (using an electromagnet or motor operated by an operator) or automatically (using a timer). Some diascopes (overhead projectors for transparent films) have a large object field for projecting handwritten or printed texts on transparent positives. An episcope is an image projector designed to project on a screen an enlarged image of a brightly lit opaque object. On the surface of the object is directed east light, and the light reflected from this surface is projected by the lens on the screen. The heading further excludes: (a) screens for half-tone or similar printing (headings 3705, 9001, 9002, etc., as the case may be); (b) microfilm photocopying machines incorporating an optical system with a small glass screen for positioning the image (heading 8443); (c) apparatus for projecting the pattern of a mask onto sensitised semiconductor materials ("mask aligners by projection") (heading 8486); (d) projectors, projection panels, displays or monitors (heading 8528); (e) cinematographic enlargers and reducers (e.g., those used for making copies of an original film on film of a different size) (heading 9010); (f) compound optical microscopes equipped with means for projecting the image (heading 9011); (g) slide viewers fitted with a single magnifying lens and used for checking photographic slides (heading 9013); (h) photogrammetric instruments for correcting distortion ("rectifiers") (heading 9015); (ij) profile projectors (heading 9031); (k) toy magic lanterns (heading 9503).

(b) other parts and accessories intended to be used exclusively or principally in a particular type of machine, tool or apparatus or in several machines, tools or apparatus falling under the same heading (including machinery, tools or apparatus of heading 9010, 9013 or 9031) are included with those machines, tools or apparatus;

(c) all other parts and accessories fall in heading 9033.

4. Heading 9005 does not include telescopic sights for mounting weapons, telescopic periscopes for submarines or tanks, or sight-tubes fitted to machines, devices, instruments or apparatus of this Chapter or Section XVI; such telescopic sights and sight-tubes are classified in heading 9013.
