9016 00 10 — Balances of a sensitivity of 50 mg or better, with or without weights

Balances of a sensitivity of 50 mg or better, with or without weights

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

Machine translation from Russian. The original is the EEC explanatory note, and that is what a classification dispute is argued from; the translation is for understanding and has no legal force.

9016 Libras of 0.05 g or greater, with or without weights

This heading covers all types of scales, including electronic scales, provided that their sensitivity is 0.05 g or higher. Gigi presented with such weights are classified in this heading, but weights presented separately, even if made of precious metal, are not included (heading 8423). Many types of weights of this heading are intended for precision measurements and are made of noncorrosive metal or light alloys, with knife-shaped support prisms, bearings and agate plates. To protect the scales from air currents and dust, they can be enclosed in a glass or plastic case or embedded in a cabinet consisting mainly of glass or plastic; then they are manipulated using handles and other devices located outside the cabinet. They may also be provided with an optical device (e.g., a magnifying glass), artificially illuminated to facilitate the reading of the scale, or may be provided with devices for horizontal position (triped, adjustable screws, alcohol level, etc.). In some torsion scales, the measured mass is balanced by wire torsion. Some electronic scales operate in vacuum or under controlled pressure to record changes in the mass of the substance subjected to special treatment (heating, cooling, gas, vacuum treatment, light exposure, etc.). The change in mass is measured by recording the current passing through the balancing solenoid. (1) Analytical scales (e.g., microchemical scales, microweights, aperiodic analytical scales) used principally in quantitative chemical analysis. (2) Assay scales used in assay analysis of precious metals. (3) Libras for precious stones graded in carats. (4) Chemistry scales, yarn scales, sample scales (used to determine the weight of paper, textile material, etc.). (5) Hydrostatic balances (or weights for determining specific gravity) for determining the specific gravity of liquids or solids. Subject to the provisions of Notes 1 and 2 to this Chapter (see general provisions), parts and accessories (including fitted or unidentified agate support prisms, bearings and plates) identifiable as being suitable for use solely or principally with weights from this heading also fall within this heading (e.g., peg, cup, housing, limbs, dampers).

However, monopores, d vunogues, tripods and the like, even if they are specifically designed for the apparatus of this heading, are not included (heading 9620). Scales of sensitivity less than 0.05 g are not included in this heading (heading 8423).
