9021 50 — Pacemakers for stimulating heart muscles (excl. parts and accessories)

Pacemakers for stimulating heart muscles (excl. parts and accessories)

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

9021 Orthopaedic appliances, including crutches, surgical belts and trusses; splints and other fracture appliances; artificial parts of the body; hearing aids and other appliances which are worn or carried, or implanted in the body, to compensate for a defect or disability of an organ: 9021 10 – orthopaedic or fracture appliances – artificial teeth and dental fittings: 9021 21 – – artificial teeth 9021 29 – – other – other artificial parts of the body: 9021 31 – – artificial joints 9021 39 – – other 9021 40 – hearing aids, excluding parts and accessories 9021 50 – cardiac pacemakers, excluding parts and accessories 9021 90 – other

Orthopedic devices are defined in Note 6 to this Chapter. These are devices for: preventing or correcting bodily deformities; or supporting or fixing parts of the body after illness, surgery, or injury. These include: (1) Devices used in diseases of the hips (coxalgia, etc.). (2) Shoulder tires (allowing the use of the hand after resection), (stretch tires). (3) Jaw fittings. (4) Drawing, etc. devices for fingers.

(5) Appliances for the treatment of Pott's disease (straightening of the head and spinal column). (6) Orthopaedic footwear and special insoles designed to correct orthopaedic conditions, provided that they are either (1) made to measure or (2) mass-produced, presented singly and not in pairs, and designed to fit either foot equally. (7) Dental appliances for correcting deformities of the teeth (braces, rings, etc.). (8) Orthopaedic appliances for the feet (club-foot appliances, leg irons with or without a spring support for the foot, surgical boots, etc.). (9) Trusses (inguinal, crural, umbilical, etc., trusses) and hernia appliances. (10) Appliances for correcting scoliosis and curvature of the spine, as well as all medical or surgical corsets and belts (including certain support belts) characterised by the following features: (a) special pads, springs, etc., adjustable for the patient's comfort; (b) the materials of which they are made (leather, metal, plastics, etc.); or (c) the presence of reinforced parts, rigid pieces of fabric or strips of various widths. The special construction of these articles for specific orthopaedic purposes distinguishes them from ordinary corsets and belts, whether or not the latter also serve for support or holding. (11) Orthopaedic suspenders (other than simple suspenders of knitted, netted or crocheted materials, etc.). This category also includes crutches and crutch-sticks. (It should, however, be noted that ordinary walking-sticks, even if specially made for disabled persons, are excluded (heading 6602).) In addition, this category includes orthopaedic walking aids known as "rollators", which provide support for users while they push them. They generally consist of a tubular metal frame on three or four wheels (some or all of which may swivel), handles and hand brakes. "Rollators" may be adjustable in height and may be fitted with a seat between the handles and a wire basket for carrying personal belongings. The seat allows the user to take short rests when necessary. This heading excludes: (a) stockings for varicose veins (heading 6115); (b) simple protective devices or devices designed to relieve pressure on certain parts of the foot (heading 3926 if of plastics, or heading 4014 if of cellular rubber fixed on a thin metal mesh with adhesive plaster); (c) support belts or other support articles referred to in Note 1 (b) to this Chapter, e.g., maternity belts (generally heading 6212 or 6307); (d) mass-produced footwear whose inner sole has been given a simple arched shape to relieve flat feet (Chapter 64). This category also includes orthopaedic appliances for animals, e.g., hernia trusses or bandages; appliances for immobilising a leg or foot;

special linings and tubes that prevent animals from biting removable fixers for orthopedic devices, etc.; bandages applied when organs fall out (to hold the organ, rectum, uterus, etc.); supports for horns, etc. However, it does not include protective devices having the character of ordinary saddle products and a harness for animals (for example, pads for horse legs) (heading 4201). (ii) Tires and Other SUBSTANCES FOR THE TREATMENT OF BREAKING BREAKS The devices for the treatment of fractures can be used either to ensure the immobility of damaged parts of the body (for stretching or protection), or for the adjustment and fixation of bones in fractures. They can also be used to treat dislocations and other joint injuries. Some of these products are intended for installation on the patient (for example, wire, zinc or wooden cradles for the maintenance of limbs, tires with plaster bandage, devices used for fractures of ribs, etc.); others are designed for fastening on a bed, table or other support (protective cradles for beds, devices for rectification for fractures, made of TRUB, intended for use instead of tires or cradles, etc.). But if the latter devices form an inseparable part of the bed, table or other support, they are excluded from the heading. Subject to the provisions of Note 1(e) to this Chapter, this heading also includes plates, pins, etc., which are inserted into the human body by surgeons for the purpose of holding together two parts of a broken bone or for the similar treatment of fractures. Artificial endings, eyes, teeth and other artificial parts of the body These products completely or partially replace defective parts of the body and usually resemble them in appearance. (A) Artificial eye devices: (1) Artificial eyes. They are usually made of plastic or glass, to which small amounts of metal oxides are added to simulate the characteristics and coloration of various parts of the human eye (sclera, iris, pupil). They can belong to the type with a single or double shell. (2) Intraocular lenses. Artificial eyes for tailor's dummies, for fur products in the form of animals, etc. are excluded (usually fall in heading 3926 or 7018); artificial eyes identified as parts of dolls or toys of animals fall in heading 9502 or 9503, respectively, or in heading 7018, if they are of glass. (B) Artificial teeth and dental connectors, for example: (1) Solid artificial teeth, usually made of porcelain or plastic (especially acrylic polymers). These can be “diatorial” teeth that have a small number of holes into which the fixing material penetrates (usually molars), or teeth equipped with two metal fists for fixation (usually incisors, fangs) or fissures for putting on a metal protrusion attached to the base of the prosthetic teeth (also usually incisors and fangs).

(2) Hollow artificial teeth, also made of porcelain or plastics and having the appearance of a tooth (incisors, canines or molars). According to the method of fixing, they are called "pivot teeth" (placed on a small metal pin or post inserted into the prepared root) or "crowns" (fixed by means of an artificial resin onto a previously shaped stump). (3) Dentures, complete or partial, consisting of a plate of vulcanised rubber, plastics or metal on which the false teeth are mounted. (4) Other articles, such as factory-made metal crowns (of gold, stainless steel, etc.) used for protecting natural teeth; cast tin bars ("heavy bars") for weighting and stabilising dentures; stainless steel bars for reinforcing the bases of vulcanised rubber dentures; various other dental fittings, clearly identifiable as such, for making metal crowns or dentures (sockets, rings, posts, hooks, loops, etc.). It should be noted that dental cements and other dental fillings fall in heading 3006; preparations known as "dental wax" or "dental impression compounds", put up in sets, in packings for retail sale, or in plates, horseshoe shapes, sticks or similar forms, and other preparations for use in dentistry with a basis of plaster (of calcined gypsum or calcium sulphate) fall in heading 3407. (C) Other artificial parts of the body, for example, arms, forearms, hands, legs, feet, noses, artificial joints (e.g., hip joints, knee joints) and tubes of synthetic fabric for replacing blood vessels, and heart valves. This heading excludes pieces of bone or skin for grafting in sterile containers (heading 3001) and bone reconstruction cements (heading 3006). (IV) HEARING AIDS These are usually electrical appliances with a circuit comprising one or more microphones (with or without an amplifier), an earphone and a battery. The earphone may be worn in or behind the ear, or may be designed to be held in the hand against the ear. This category is restricted to appliances for overcoming deafness; it excludes articles such as headphones, amplifiers and the like used in conference rooms or by telephonists to improve the audibility of speech. (V) OTHER APPLIANCES WHICH ARE WORN OR CARRIED, OR IMPLANTED IN THE BODY, TO COMPENSATE FOR A DEFECT OR DISABILITY This category covers: (1) Speech aids for persons who have lost the use of their vocal cords as a result of injury or surgery. They consist essentially of an electronic pulse generator. When pressed against the neck, for example, they generate vibrations in the throat cavities, which are modulated by the user to reproduce audible speech. (2) Pacemakers for stimulating defective heart muscles. They are approximately the size and weight of a pocket watch and are implanted under the skin of the patient's chest. They contain an electric battery and are connected by electrodes to the heart, to which they supply impulses,

necessary for its functioning. Other types of rhythm stimulators are used for stimulating other organs (e.g., the lungs, rectum or bladder). (3) Electronic aids for the blind. These consist essentially of an ultrasonic transceiver powered by an electric battery. Variations in frequency, corresponding to the time taken by the ultrasonic beam to reach an obstacle and be reflected back, enable the user, by means of an appropriate device (e.g., an earpiece), to detect the obstacle and judge the distance to it. (4) Devices implanted in the body, used to support or replace the chemical function of certain organs (e.g., the secretion of insulin). PARTS AND ACCESSORIES Subject to the provisions of Notes 1 and 2 to this Chapter (see the General Explanatory Note), parts and accessories of the apparatus or appliances of this heading are also classified in this heading.
