1501 10 900 0 — Lard, rendered or otherwise extracted (excl. for technical/industrial uses, and lard stearin and lard oil)

Lard, rendered or otherwise extracted (excl. for technical/industrial uses, and lard stearin and lard oil)

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

Duty rate
10%

This is the base rate. A tariff quota, a preference for the country of origin and a tariff exemption lower it; anti-dumping and special duties are paid on top of it

EEC Council Decision No. 80 of 14.09.2021

Supplementary unit
Not applicable
Requirements and measures
4

None: dual use, EAEU non-tariff regulation, trade defence measures — duty on top of the tariff, tariff quota.

Whether a measure applies to your goods depends on their characteristics and the shipping documents

VAT
22% or 10%

10% if the product matches the line of List No. 908: “Жир свиной (включая лярд) и жир домашней птицы, кроме жира товарной позиции 0209 или 1503”. Otherwise 22%.

Explanatory notes to heading 1501 3 paragraphs

Machine translation from Russian. The original is the EEC explanatory note, and that is what a classification dispute is argued from; the translation is for understanding and has no legal force.

1501 Pork fat (including lard) and poultry fat, other than t fat of heading 0209 or 1503: 1501 10 – lard 1501 20 – pork fat other 1501 90 – other

Fats of this heading may be obtained by any treatment, for example by melting, pressing or solvent extraction. Nai are more often used processes of wet melting (steam or low-temperature) and dry melting. With dry melting, some of the fat is separated by the application of high temperature; another part of the fat is extracted by pressing and added to the fat obtained during melting. In some cases, other fat in the residues can be extracted with a solvent. Subject to the foregoing opinions, this heading covers:—Lyard, edible white solid or semi-solid fat of tender and thick consistency obtained from the fatty tissues of pigs. Depending on the production method and the adipose tissue used, different varieties of lard are obtained. For example, other higher-grade fat is obtained, as a rule, by dry melting of the abdominal fat of pigs. Most Lards are deodorized and in some cases, antioxidants may be added to prevent rancidity. A liard containing spices or bay leaf added in insignificant quantities without altering its essential properties is classified in this heading, but suitable for consumption mixtures or finished products containing lard are excluded (heading 1517). Other pork fats, including bone fat, and fats derived from waste and other inedible fats for use other than food, for example for industry and animal feeding. Poultry fat, including bone fat and fats derived from waste. Bone fat obtained from fresh bone is white or yellowish fat with the consistency and smell of ghee; but from stale bone it is soft, grainy, dirty-yellow or brown with an unpleasant odor. Bone fat is used in the production of soaps or candles and as a lubricant. Fats obtained from waste are fats from carcasses, waste or residues of animal processing (tongue trimmings, stomach, fat trimming, etc.) or fats obtained by pruning or cleaning the skin. They usually have the following characteristic features: a dark color, an unpleasant smell, an increased content of free fatty acids (palmitic, oleic, etc.), cholesterol and impurities, and a lower melting point than lard or other fats of this heading. They are mainly used for technical purposes.

These fats can be raw or refined. Refining is achieved by neutralizing or treating fuller earth, passing overheated steam through fat, filtration, etc. These products are used in the preparation of feed, the manufacture of ointments, soap, etc. This heading also excludes: (a) pork fat separated from lean meat and poultry fat not melted or otherwise extracted of heading 0209; (b) lard stearin and lard oil (heading 1503); (c) fats derived from animals other than those referred to in this heading (heading 1502, 1504 or 1506); (d) bone oil (heading 1506); (e) substitute lard oil (heading 1517).
