Peptones and their derivatives; other protein substances and their derivatives, n.e.s.; hide powder, whether or not chromed (excl. organic or inorganic compounds of mercury whether or not chemically defined)

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

3504 Peptons and their derivatives; other protein substances and their derivatives, not elsewhere specified or included; skin powder, or golly, chrome or unchrome

This heading covers: (A) Peptons and their derivatives. (1) Peptons are soluble substances obtained by hydrolysis of proteins or by exposure to certain enzymes (pepsin, papain, pancreatin, etc.). Usually these are white or yellowish powders, requiring sealed packaging due to their high hygroscopicity. Peptons can also be in the form of solutions. The main species are meat peptons, yeast peptons, blood peptons and casein peptons. They are used in f reinforcement, for cooking, for growing bacteria, etc. (2) Peptons are derivatives of peptons. They are mainly used in pharmacy; the most important are iron peptons and manganese peptons. (B) Other protein substances and derivatives thereof which do not fall under any other heading of the Nomenclature include in particular: (1) Glutelins and prolamines (e.g., gliadins extracted from wheat or rye and zein extracted from maize) which are bread proteins. (2) Globulins, such as lactoglobulins or ovoglobulins (but see exception (d) at the end of the HS Explanatory Note to this heading). (3) Glycinine, the main protein of soybeans. (4) Keratins obtained from hair, nails, horns, hooves, feathers, etc. (5) Nucleoproteins are complexes of proteins and nucleic acids and their derivatives. Nucleoproteins are isolated, for example, from beer yeast, and their salts (iron, copper, etc.) are used mainly in pharmacy. However, mercury nucleoproteins corresponding to the description of heading 2852 are excluded. (6) Protein isolates obtained by extraction from plant substances (for example, from low-fat flour of cultured soybeans) and representing a mixture of proteins contained in them. The protein content of these isolates is usually at least 90%. (C) Powder made of skin is chrome or non-chrome. "" Powder made of skin is used to determine tannin in natural tannins and plant tannin extracts. In fact, it is pure collagen obtained by careful processing of fresh skin. This powder may contain a small amount of added chromium alum (chrome skin powder) or may be supplied unchrome, in which case the addition of

chromium alum immediately before its use. Skin powder treated in this manner should not be covered with dust, powder and flour of chrome skin of heading 4115, which are not suitable for the determination of tannin and are less valuable.

The heading excludes: (a) protein hydrolysates consisting mainly of a mixture of amino acids and sodium chloride, and concentrates obtained by eliminating certain constituents of defatted soya-bean flour, used as additives in food preparations (heading 2106); (b) proteinates of precious metals (heading 2843) or proteinates of headings 2844 - 2846 and 2852; (c) nucleic acid and its salts (nucleates) (heading 2934); (d) fibrinogen, fibrin, blood globulins and serum globulins, normal human immunoglobulin and immune sera (specific immunoglobulins) and other blood fractions (heading 3002); (e) products described in this heading when put up as medicaments (heading 3003 or 3004); (f) enzymes (heading 3507); (g) hardened proteins (heading 3913).

Notes

English text as published in Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2021/1832 (Combined Nomenclature). The EAEU tariff and the EU nomenclature copy these notes from the same convention. For a Russian declaration the binding version is the Russian one: Annex to Decision No 80 of the EEC Council of 14 September 2021.

1. This chapter does not cover:

(a) yeasts (heading 2102);

(b) blood fractions (other than blood albumin not prepared for therapeutic or prophylactic uses), medicaments or other products of Chapter 30;

(c) enzymatic preparations for pre-tanning (heading 3202);

(d) enzymatic soaking or washing preparations and other products of Chapter 34;

(e) hardened proteins (heading 3913); or

(f) gelatin products of the printing industry (Chapter 49).

2. For the purposes of heading 3505, the term ‘dextrins’ means starch degradation products with a reducing sugar content, expressed as dextrose on the dry substance, not exceeding 10 %. Such products with a reducing sugar content exceeding 10 % fall in heading 1702.

Additional note

Machine translation. The original is the Russian text of the EAEU tariff, and customs goes by it; this translation is for understanding only and has no legal force.
