7604 10 — Bars, rods and profiles, of non-alloy aluminium, n.e.s.

Bars, rods and profiles, of non-alloy aluminium, n.e.s.

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

Explanatory notes to heading 7604 2 paragraphs

Machine translation from Russian. The original is the EEC explanatory note, and that is what a classification dispute is argued from; the translation is for understanding and has no legal force.

7604 Aluminium bars, rods and profiles: 7604 10 – of non-alloyed aluminium

7604 21 – profiles hollow 7604 29 – Other These articles, as defined in Notes 1 (a) and 1 (b) to this Chapter, correspond to similar articles of copper. The explanatory note to heading 7407 therefore applies, mutatis mutandis, to this heading. This heading does not cover: (a) rods and profiles ready for use in structures (heading 7610); (b) coated welding electrodes, etc. (heading 8311).

1. The terms used in this chapter mean:

(a) "non-alloy aluminum" means a metal containing at least 99 % by weight of aluminium, provided that the mass content of each of the other elements does not exceed the limits specified in the following table:

Other elements

Other elements include, for example, Cr, Cu, Mg, Mn, Ni, Zn.

Copper content is allowed in quantities greater than 0.1 wt.%, but not more than 0.2 wt.%, provided that the content of chromium or manganese is not more than 0.05 wt.%.

(b) "aluminum alloys" means metal alloys in which the aluminium content by mass exceeds that of each of the other elements contained in the alloy, provided that:

(i) the mass content of at least one of the other elements or iron and silicon taken together will exceed the mass limit indicated in the table; or

(ii) the total content of other elements is more than 1% by weight.

2. Notwithstanding the provisions of note 9 (c) to section XV, for the purposes of subheading 7616 91, the term “wire” means only articles rolled up or not rolled into coves and with any shape of cross-section not exceeding 6 mm.
