9604 00 00 — Hand sieves and hand riddles

Hand sieves and hand riddles

Names come in English where the EU Combined Nomenclature publishes them — chapters, headings and subheadings, whose first six digits are the same Harmonized System; deeper EAEU detail is a machine translation, marked as such. Official texts — tariff notes, measures, lists and classification rulings — are the original: customs and your broker go by that wording. Where we show a machine translation of them, it is marked; where our quality check rejected one, the Russian stays.

9604 Sita and hand grille

The expression "hand sieves and hand riddles" means articles made of strong metal gauze or other mesh material (with various mesh sizes), mounted in a rectangular or circular frame (usually of wood or metal), and used for separating solids according to particle size. The materials most commonly used for the gauze are horsehair, man-made monofilaments, silk threads, catgut, wire (steel, iron, brass wire, etc.). The heading covers: hand sieves and riddles for ashes, sand, seeds, loosened soil, etc.; sieves of bolting cloth (e.g., for flour), household sieves (e.g., for flour); laboratory sieves (for testing the quality of cement, foundry moulding sands, fertilisers, wood flour, etc.), including those which can be combined in a series; high precision sieves for sorting precious and semi-precious stones (e.g., diamonds). The heading excludes: (a) sieves and riddles which are fixtures (e.g., sieves set up on the ground for screening soil or gravel, generally heading 7326); (b) ordinary sieves (e.g., for cheese) consisting of a container with a perforated bottom of thin sheet metal; funnels with a filtering device; milk filters; sieves for straining paints, whitewash, fungicidal solutions, etc. (generally Chapter 73); (c) sieves and riddles designed to be fitted to machines or appliances (e.g., for the flour milling industry, agriculture, sorting stones, ores, etc.); such articles are classified as parts of machinery, etc., in accordance with Note 2 to Section XVI and generally fall in the same heading as the machine for which they are solely or principally intended (e.g., heading 8437 or 8474).
